The Baku City Circuit was explicitly created for Formula 1 and made its debut in 2016. Designed by Hermann Tilke, it’s part of the modern era of F1 venues, purpose-built to bring Grand Prix racing into the heart of major cities.
By 2017, the weekend was officially the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and Baku became a permanent stop on the schedule. It’s a young circuit with a fast-growing legacy.
Fun fact: The Baku City Circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke, one of the most influential circuit designers of the modern F1 era.
